Last week, the awesome Penny Reid asked me to have a Zoom chat to discuss my upcoming book, and reveal the cover. If you missed it, here it is! The contest mentioned is over, I believe, but you can still listen to my awkward rambles and learn some more about Dewey Belong Together <3

Five Questions About Me :)

Five Questions About Me :)

Last week, I was lucky to be featured by Smartypants Romance as their Author of the Week. They did a short interview on their Facebook page, which I’m going to copy here for those who might not follow them there. Enjoy!

1. How long have you been writing? How many books have you written?

I have been writing stories since I was five, and novels since I was around ten; however, the first book of mine to be published will be for Smartypants Romance Launch 3!

2. What kind of books do you typically write?

I enjoy writing all sorts of genres, but it was in romantic comedy that I–pardon the pun–fell in love. If I get to make someone laugh, pull at their heartstrings, and deliver them a happy ending which might make their day a little brighter, then I feel that’s a good job well done.

3. Can you tell us a little bit about the book you’re writing for Launch 3?

I am very excited to say that we will be returning to the Green Valley Public Library in my book. There are frenemy-gamers involved. There will be a case of mistaken identity and forced proximity. The juice of innocent watermelons will be spilled on the field of battle. You can keep an eye out for some Smartypants Romance cameos and of course a Winston or two. I can also say that the heroine, Maxine, is a curvy girl inspired by Ashley Graham.

4. Who are some of your favorite one-click authors?

I have so many one-click authors! You should see my TBR; it’s not a pile, it’s Mount Everest. Right now, Carian Cole, Cat Porter, and Mariana Zapata are instant one-click authors for me.

5. Fun fact about yourself.

I used to work with someone else affectionately named Overlord. As part of an art project/scavenger hunt for said Overlord, my sister and I decorated a five foot tall Christmas tree, tied on about 120 Justin Bieber birthday balloons, and made that sucker fly. (Note: Helium is a precious resource, which I did not appreciate at the time. Please do not replicate this stunt. Especially near an airport.)

★ ★ BLURB ★ ★
Librarian Maxine Peters lives her life behind the scenes. By day, she’s a buttoned-up cataloguing whiz in the basement of the Green Valley Public Library. By night, she’s secretly dominating in an online role playing game as the legendary Maximus_Damage. Her in-game persona has the skills to back up the hype. But every hero has an enemy; every saga, a villain. And by her own invitation, Maximus’ arch nemesis, Wrath, has just landed in Green Valley.

Jonathan Owen is not at all who Maxine expects when she meets Wrath face to face. Eager to leave the past in the game, Jonathan takes this golden opportunity to win Maxine’s heart. There’s just one wrench in that plan: he may have, on a few occasions, acted like a bit of a jerk online. And to his puzzlement, she has taken their fun rivalry to the level of epic dislike.

When Jonathan and Maxine are unexpectedly alone for a weekend, secrets are revealed that make love hard and hatred even harder. Jonathan quickly learns fighting his own demons will take more than one elite gamer. And Maxine, who is busy rebooting her life in Green Valley, might not be up to the task.

When real life starts to override the game, can Maxine and Jonathan find a way to make it work? Or will it be game over for this player versus player adventure?

‘Dewey Belong Together’ is a full-length contemporary romance and can be read as a standalone. Book #7 in the Green Valley Library series, Green Valley Chronicles, Penny Reid Book Universe.

Back again

Back again

As I was standing at my sink a few days ago, I felt a familiar slipping sensation in my lower back, and barely made it to the bed. Now, I know bed rest isn’t ideal for a back injury, so I have been getting up and exercising gently, but it leaves me at a bit of a loose end when it comes to working on my book. Sitting up for hours at my laptop station or at my desk upstairs with the PC (my preferred location to work) are both out.

However, with my tablet and Google Drive, I am thankfully getting plenty done from the comfort of my bed or couch, while wrapped in a heating blanket and smothered in anti-inflammatory gel. I’m sure I will look back at this soon and laugh, but for now I’m focussed on keeping up with my writing schedule and not letting this derail me too much.

Ice

Ice

Welp, just as I foretold the end of winter, an ice storm descended upon us. This tells me two things: one, I will never be a weather forecaster; and two, this is a perfect day to stay cozy and write until the power goes out. As we live in the woods, we’ve taken out water in preparation, and have the lanterns on standby. I hope wherever you are, your day is going well and you are also cozy and happy.

Welcome

Welcome

Welcome to my fledgling website! Please excuse the sawdust while everything gets sorted. My name is Ann Whynot, and I am an emerging author of contemporary romance and romantic comedy. (What that translates to, is that I am working on a manuscript). I invite you to join me on my journey through the foibles and frustrations, the joy and the Jenga involved in writing my book. Yes, I said Jenga–if you’ve ever played the game and written a novel, you may recognize similar elements between the two.

I will generate content for this site on a haphazard basis, as writing my current novel is my main priority. In the meantime, please feel free to catch up with me on social media or email–I love to talk, and will happily answer back.

Toodles,  Ann 🙂
